Oruro Carnival

Last weekend was the famous Oruro Carnival. I was there for the first time. Very impressive indeed.
Unfortunately this time a serious accident almost cancelled the whole event on the first night. A walking bridge collapsed on top of a band killing 4 and injuring about 90 people.

Here are some pics from my trip to the carnival.

Leaving La Paz for Oruro at El Alto

The symbol of La Paz: Illimani mountain.

Arriving to Oruro. This is a mining town...

Carnival dancers a sculptures. In front the Diablada.

Another statue of a carnival dancer.

Carnival street on the Plaza.

Inca dancers arriving

Children participate as well.

Condors dancing.

The final point of the dancing.. On their knees to the altar.

Back to La Paz. greeted by the majestic Illimani again.
